Job Description
Functions: Under the direction of the District Administrator and/or the Program Coordinator, the Building Attendant is responsible for the oversight and general maintenance of the Lind Park Fieldhouse building as assigned and scheduled during building operational hours, park programs, and/or building rental(s) operations.
Immediate Supervisor: Reports to the District Administrator or their designee.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be at least 19 years of age or older
- Ability to lift at least fifty pounds
- Ability to provide exceptional customer service to patrons
- Must be comfortable working with the public
- Must be flexible with schedule changes
- Must have at least graduated from High School or GED Equivalent
Essential Functions:
- Assist with maintaining safety protocols, procedures, and policies as related to all
patrons and employees using the building. - Always dress in assigned work uniform as provided by the Park District.
- Complete Accident/Incident Reports and immediately submit to Supervisor for further review.
- Provide good customer service to patrons as deemed appropriate and in the best interest of the Park District as well as the District’s patrons.
- Assist with set-ups and breakdowns of the building’s rooms as warranted for programs and/or designated building rentals.
- Conduct a walk through every 20-30 minutes for the following:
- Inspect all rooms, equipment, and supplies for any hazard or safety concerns and report any issues to the Supervisor.
- Maintain all common areas to look neat and pleasing to the customers.
- Responsible for cleaning up spills, smells, and garbage.
- Washrooms are inspected, clean, and stocked at all times.
- Shovel and salt exterior walkways and steps during snow and ice conditions.
- Conduct proper cleaning of the building as deemed warranted:
- Dispose of all trash from the building rental.
- Sweep and/or mop floors.
- Secure the building at the end of your shift.
- Secure all doors.
- Check all thermostats for proper heat/AC levels (depending on season).
- Turn off all lights.
- Set the Building Alarm.
Marginal Functions:
- Inform supervisor of any recommendations for improvements to the facility, rooms, equipment, and supplies.
- Assist program instructor with a program or room if needed
- Assist the Recreation Supervisors and front office personnel.
- Perform all other duties as deemed necessary in order to assist other employees in the deemed warranted and in the best interest of the Berkeley Park District and the services we provide.
Work Hours and Compensation:
- The position of Building Attendant is designated as a part time position and is paid
as a Contractual Services through the Accounts Payable monthly AP Run. - This position is classified as a non-exempt hourly status and will work assigned
schedules which may include 4-28 hours per week. - No overtime (over 40 hours per week) is allowed in the position.
- Pay Rate Range = $15/Hour (Minimum) – $20.00/Hour (Maximum) based upon experience and years of service to the District. No prior experience required.
Environmental Considerations:
- Will periodically be required to lift and carry tables, chairs, and other building/program equipment as warranted.
- May be exposed to outside elements when completing tasks on the exterior of the facility.
- Most activities are performed indoors. These conditions include lighting and various temperature settings.
Cognitive Considerations:
- Ability to carry out instructions and deal tactfully with people.
- Ability to complete various forms of communication related to the operation of the facility in a clear and concise manner.
- Must have the capability to decipher instructions (verbal & written), schedules, room setups, and emergency plans, and take action to complete them correctly and in a timely fashion.
- Must have the ability to execute good judgment and utilize problem solving skills when necessary.
Psychological Considerations:
- May experience added stress and pressure in situations of an emergency or during
busy times in the facility with multiple functions being required at one time. - Other added pressures may be experienced during situations with difficult customers, or program conflicts with participants not cooperating.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks at one time, prioritize the tasks, and complete them in a timely fashion. Ability to think independently and determine what tasks must be completed.
Physiological Considerations:
- Must have the ability to lift and maneuver tables, chairs, and other building and/or
program equipment/supplies that may weigh over 25-50 pounds. - Required to work outside, such as shoveling and salting the facility walkways and steps as deemed warranted based upon winter-type conditions,
- Required to take the garbage to the dumpster under all weather-related conditions.
- Assist with loading/unloading program supplies/equipment from vehicles (cars/trucks) as related to Park District programs and/or services.
- Assist with cleaning up the Lind Park grounds after excessive use following a Park Rental or as may be requested periodically.
